My guess is that it was originally painted in error, because it is not handicap accessible because of the sidewalk. They did the same thing at the South School last season, but the black paint wears off and it will become questionable to drivers whether there is or is not a crosswalk there. In the case of the South School area, it doesn't make much difference if there are crosswalks or not. The crossing guards don't use them anyway. Teachers taking children on field trips don't use them. They just walk half way down Summer Street and cross in the middle of the road. A lot of good lessons to teach children being lost here.
Interesting. However, they weren't newly created last week - they existed before, just were faded. So I'm definitely curious to know if they weren't supposed to exist at all or if they were painted over again last night for some other reason.
